About the Council

The National Council of Public Finance (CNFP) is an independent fiscal institution established by the amended law of 12 July 2014 on the coordination and governance of public finances.

The CNFP is responsible for providing independent assessments of Luxembourg's public finances.

Its mandate focuses on monitoring compliance with national and European fiscal rules and overseeing the application of the automatic correction mechanism in the event of non-compliance with the fiscal framework. In addition, the CNFP assesses macroeconomic and budgetary forecasts and analyses the consistency, coherence and effectiveness of the national fiscal framework, while also taking into account the European fiscal framework.

The CNFP is a member of the Network of EU Independent Fiscal Institutions.
